Setting permissions via query allows you to permission data based on their values. For example, you can select all orgs of type "school" or all classes containing "English" in the title. This is helpful if, for instance, your course codes change from year to year in your SIS. Setting permissions by query allows for a more sustainable approach, in this case, and the setting will apply year after year. To add via query, click the dropdown menu in the top left and then click "Select via Query".
In the menu that appears, click the blue "+" icon to add a query. From here, you can select what field to select by, what relation to select by, and the value(s) to search for by clicking their respective column. In the screen below, all orgs with the type of "school" will be selected.
Multiple queries can also be chained together, and single queries can have multiple conditions. If adding multiple conditions to a single query, all conditions must be met in order for data to be added to permissions. If queries are chained, either of the individual queries must be met. To add additional conditions to a query, click the blue "+" icon in the top right of the individual query. In the screenshot below, the query will select all Courses that have a title containing "English" and have subjects equaling "Eng".
To chain another query, click the blue "+" located below a query. In the screen below, all Courses that either have a title containing "English" and have subjects equaling "Eng", or whose title contains "Language Arts" will be selected.
When making a query for Orgs or Courses, you can preview the results of your query by clicking the "Preview Query Result" button in the top right. Please note that this option is only available when selecting Orgs and Courses.
